Known for diverse literary acrobatics, Ann Patchett can just as easily crawl inside the head of a Catholic nun, a blues drummer, a gay magician, and a South American terrorist, as her novels (The Patron Saint of Liars, Taft, The Magician’s Assistant, and Bel Canto) attest. Her fine literary skills have earned her critical praise, a Guggenheim, and the Orange Prize. Patchett recently served as editor of Best American Short Stories 2006.
