Nigerian-born rising literary star Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie hopes her fiction “will enable Americans to see the human, ordinary lives of Nigerians.” Her novel Purple Hibiscus was praised as a fantastic debut. Her second, Half of a Yellow Sun, uncovers the human side of the 1960s civil war that raged as the Nigerians of Igbo formed the nation of Biafra. The Minneapolis Star states, “this book confirms that if you want to under-stand [a country’s] soul ... read its fiction.”
