Nathaniel Philbrick has dedicated his writing career to the sea, researching its past and those who have traveled its choppy waves. In the Heart of the Sea won the 2001 National Book Award for nonfiction and Mayflower: A Story of Community, Courage and War, “a judicious, fascinating work of revisionist history,” was deemed one of The New York Times’ ten best books of 2006 and was a finalist for the Pulitzer Prize.
