The American Shorts Reading Series, with Pittsburgh’s Creative Nonfiction Foundation, opens the 2008 season at the Carnegie Library Lecture Hall with the book launch of ANATOMY OF BASEBALL. This all-star anthology, published as a collaboration between the literary journal Creative Nonfiction and SMU Press, compiles 20 essays about the great American pastime.
Guest readers for the event are Stefan Fatsis, staff reporter for The Wall Street Journal and a regular sports contributor to NPR’s All Things Considered; Lanny Frattare, Pittsburgh Pirates broadcaster; and Lee Gutkind, founding editor of Creative Nonfiction and co-editor of ANATOMY OF BASEBALL.
Doors open at 7pm to the Dixieland sounds of the Pittsburgh Banjo Club. Readings begin at 7:30pm, with a break for socializing and book-signing, followed by a screening of Rob Ruck’s award-winning local documentary about Pittsburgh Negro Baseball Leagues, Kings On The Hill. Soft drinks, snacks, and wine and beer available for purchase.
Tickets are $10 each at the door. You can purchase tickets online or order by phone at 412.622.8866.
