Pittsburgh Arts & Lectures presents WES MOORE
“Discovering Wes Moore”
Thursday, September 13, 2012,
Elsie H. Hillman Auditorium at Kaufmann Center, 7:00pm
(Pittsburgh, Pa.) – Pittsburgh Arts & Lectures announces the appearance of New York Times bestselling author Wes Moore, on Thursday, September 13, 2012, 7:00 p.m., at the Hill House Kaufmann Center in Pittsburgh’s Historic Hill District.
“Discovering Wes Moore,” is a program about the life of Wes Moore, author, decorated combat veteran, White House fellow, and Rhodes Scholar. It’s also about another man named Wes Moore, who is serving a life sentence for felony murder. Both grew up in Baltimore and are close in age, similarities which makes their contrasting stories even more interesting. The program highlights the differences in their lives and choices that made all the difference in their success or struggles.
Wes Moore is a graduate of Johns Hopkins University and was a Rhodes Scholar. He served as a paratrooper and captain in the U.S. Army in Afghanistan and as a White House Fellow in the U.S. Department of State. He was named one of the top young business leaders in America and has appeared on the cover of Time magazine, which featured him in the article, "The New Greatest Generation." His memoir, The Other Wes Moore, is about a kid with his same name, who grew up in the same neighborhood, but who ended up in prison for felony murder, and about the differences in their lives that made all the difference in determining their futures--like staying in school. The book has recently been revised for the teen audience and will be published in September with a new title, Discovering Wes Moore.
This Pittsburgh Arts & Lectures special event is presented in partnership with Hill House Association and with support from the Succop Charitable Family Trust. Signed copies of the memoir, The Other Wes Moore and the YA version of the memoir, Discovering Wes Moore, will be available for purchase at the event from Mystery Lovers Bookshop, the exclusive independent bookseller for Pittsburgh Arts & Lectures, with a storefront located in Oakmont, PA.
